The Southern Baptist Convention formed in 1845 because one man had a heart for missions. Today, millions of Southern Baptists share that same heart, and our members are among them. Stemming directly from our Lord's command to go into all the world with the gospel, First Baptist's missions efforts extend from across town to around the world. Since the Lord's Great Commission includes more than our Southern Baptist International and North American Mission boards; we respond to it as a mandate for churches and individual Christians. So, whether through Sunday school lessons, Sunday sermons or our missions education opportunities for men and women, girls and boys, we teach, preach and practice missions and evangelism. With God's blessing, thousands of locals have heard and responded favorably to the saving message of Jesus Christ, and scores of our members have traversed the world with the same message of forgiveness and hope.
